Seven Steps To A Healthy New Year
The new year is upon us, and perhaps you’ve made some New Year’s Resolutions. For most, ‘health’ is on the list, though sometimes figuring out how to ‘get healthy’ isn’t as easy as making the list is. Normally, when you think about health, you think about food. At LifeFone, we have seven steps to a healthy New Year that aren’t related to food, but are just as important to your health.
Stress less
Stress can impact your physical health, make you more prone to illness, and also can impact your mental well-being. Take the time to read a book, go for a walk, listen to music or simply sit in the park. Participating in activities such as yoga can help keep stress at bay.
Schedule Sleep
Getting a good night’s sleep should be one of the primary goals when making a move towards a healthier lifestyle. Everyone’s individual needs are different, so gauge how much sleep you need based on how you feel the next day.
Learn to say no
It’s in our nature to want to help whenever and wherever we can, however, sometimes too many ‘yes’ answers can cause us to overdo, and over commit our time. Learning how to say ‘no’ can help you keep a more balanced schedule, and can help keep the stress level down.
Make exercise a priority
By moving more, your blood flow is better, which helps stiff joints and muscles. It also pushes more oxygen to the brain, which helps you think more clearly and be more focused. If you can get outside and walk, do so. If you cannot, in home exercise is good also. Anything that you can do to move your body for about 15 minutes a day is a step in the right direction.
Make new friends
Forming bonds and a good social circle can help you become healthier as you have someone to share thoughts and emotions with. Treat yourself, and enlarge your social circle in 2018, even if only by one.
Stay hydrated
Of course you know how important water is, but many don’t prioritize the consumption of it. Your body needs water to stay healthy. Ensure that your healthier habits include drinking more water. A good target is about 70 oz. a day.
Find a hobby
If you don’t already have a hobby, you should try to find one. Cooking classes, wood working or even some gardening in the spring are great choices. The important thing is to spend some time doing something that makes you feel good about yourself.
We hope that these seven steps to a healthy New Year will help you look at other ways to stay and get healthy this New Year!
